Dig the City returns this summer to turn the city centre into a floral wonderland!
Manchester’s Summer Garden festival returns from 31st July to 6th August in your neighbourhood and is bigger than ever before with 20 interactive show gardens, art, pop-up bars, events, live music and fun for the whole city.
The festival is free for all and this year’s highlights include a Coronation Street Tour Garden, the Bridgewater Hall Community Performance Garden, an Imperial War Museum Dig for Victory installation, a travelling fashion show, Grey Goose and Harvey Nichols bar and exciting street events. It’s not just gardens and gardening - the festival is a celebration of summer in the city.
Dig the City and your street…
Between 07.00-20.00 on the set up days (27th - 30th July) Manchester will be transformed into show gardens, designed and delivered by landscape gardeners and aided by Dig the City volunteers and the production team. Noisy activity will be restricted to appropriate hours.
During the live days of the festival (31st July - 6th August) show gardens (King St, St Ann’s Square, New Cathedral St) and the New Cathedral Street pop-up restaurant and mini bandstand will be open 10.00-18.00. The entertainment space on St Ann’s Square will be open 10.00-20.00, on Fri 31st and Sat 1st it will be open later for events (end time 11pm). Event producers are mindful of noise and any access interruptions. The times of performers have been scheduled to cause minimum disruption to businesses and residents (lunchtime and after work). Security will be on site 24 hours a day.
Vehicle access to King Street from Cross Street is closed due to Metrolink works and access for delivery is only from Police Street/Deansgate – due to show gardens and some work by shop fitters you should be mindful of restricted access for deliveries and workmen. Please contact any contractors and let them know about the festival and please let our team know via email of any work being done during the festival dates.
